HUCO was founded in 1958 and until 1981 has become one of the largest manufacturers of Record Replacement Needles. Since 1981 HUCO started to develop instruments for eye surgery, the first instrument being the Ruby Cystotome. Since that date HUCO has been devoted to eye surgery developing new instruments and specializing in Gem Knives:Resposable Crystal Knives or Diamond Knives for any type of eye surgery.

In April 1992 HUCO was first to put Clear Cornea Knives on the market. And in 1993 HUCO made the first Clear Cornea Knife with a tip of 130°/90° to allow straight incision in the Descemet and Bowman's membrane. At the end of 1996, HUCO introduced the ZALDIVAR Multiuse Diamond Knife and at the end of 1997, Mermoud Deep Sclerectomy Set.

In 2000 HUCO created a complete set of instruments to perform endoscopic lacrimal surgery, procedure develop by Dr. J.M. Piffaretti. HUCO Instruments are CE marked. HUCO is certified ISO 9001 : 2000, ISO 13485 : 2003.

In 2001 HUCO introduced the FUKASAKU Universal Diamond Knife (FUD Knife), the EL-SAYYAD Phacolaser Diamond Knife as well as a Needle Holder that can also be used as scissors.

In 2002 HUCO put on the market a complete line of instruments to perform Non Penetrating Glaucoma Surgery, LASEK surgery, and LACHMUND Dacryoplasty.

In 2005 HUCO will put on the market knives for micro surgery.
